Calendar: Graduation Requirements

Students must fulfill the following graduation requirements in order to receive a Maryland High School Diploma:

  • Earn 21 State-specified credits (see chart below);
  • Meet attendance and service-learning requirements.
  • Meet all local school system requirements.

Many local school systems have graduation requirements for high school students in addition to the State’s requirements.

  • 1 biology credit
  • 2 laboratory credits in any or all of the following: earth, life or physical science

  • 1 U.S. history credit
  • 1 local, state, national government credit
Fine Arts 1 credit  
Physical Education .5 credit
Health .5 credit
Technology Education 1 credit
